Half-orcs

The cruel, brute Orcs are notorious for their ferociousness and for raping the women of their enemies. Half-orcs are a by-product of this intercourse. Most civilized races in Bellög despise Half-orcs because they remind them of the danger that still lurks in the crevices of the earth.

Half-orcs are ugly, muscular humanoids with coarse hair and beady eyes. Their skin tends to be grey or greenish. Their jaws are often broader than a humans’ and they sometimes grow short tusks. It is immediately apparent to humans when one has Orc blood, as their traits are dominant.

History
When the first men arrived in Bellög they suddenly had to fight off the aggressive Orc clans. These cruel creatures pillaged family farms, killed men and raped women. Their children appeared to be crudely deformed and were often left in the forest or killed. Some women, however, could not kill their children and raised them despite their appearance. These children grew up among human families and sometimes they were even accepted by their kin. Half-orcs are sterile, they cannot reproduce, so they have never developed their own culture.

Today
As long as Half-orcs can pass for full human they can find work in the cities as a smith, guard or construction worker. Dwarves like hiring Half-orcs for their increased strength, valuing them as miners and guards. Most Humans and Elves, however, view Half-orcs with suspicion. It is not uncommon for Half-orcs to leave their family at young age to find their fortune in the wide world.

Culture
Half-orcs tend to be aggressive, misunderstood simpletons. Their poorly developed vocal cords make them sound more like animals than humans, their instinct lets them communicate with Orcs in a language of growls and grunts. A fair number of them have trouble following the strict rules of towns and society. Only the individuals with exceptional self-control discover how their physical superiority can help them obtain power and riches.

Because from an early age on Half-orcs are generally treated as lesser people they tend to develop a grudge against civilisation. They tend to be free spirited up to the point of rebellious. It is therefore not unusual for them to end up as ruffians or prove themselves and join, or even lead, Orc clans.

Religion
Usually Half-orcs have at least one crisis of faith in their life. They sometimes turn to the goddess of pain, Loviathar. Most Half-orc cannot bother too much with religion, although some accept the faith of their community.
